Qaanaaq (about pronounced KAH-nahk), erstwhile Thule, occurs as town & municipality inside northwestern Greenland. These are a merely town in the district of Northerly Greenland (Avanaa). It was known as Thule fallowing the European myth. a town of Qaanaaq hwhen a people of 640, & the whole municipality 850 (as of Jan. One, 2005). Additionally to the town, there are 5 villages (sustaining people): Savissivik, pop. 78, in the northern section of Melville Bay, in the south of the municipality Moriusaq Xxi, astir Xxx kilometer of Thule Air Base Qeqertat Twenty-two (on the independent island of the Harward Øer) Qeqertarsuaq Ii (in an island, Herbert Ø) Siorapaluk 87 (northmost village of the globe at 77°28'North)

Tons villages come losing population, since people come moving to the town. Historically, a total of villages has been higher, however a few develop been abandoned. Qeqertarsuaq is virtually abandoned by at present. This run of people concentration in the towns is found across a lot of Greenland.

78 kilometer northwest of Siorapaluk is Etah, an abandoned village which another time was a northmost village of the globe, at 78°19'North).

A municipality has an metropolitan area of 225 500 kilometre2, the big part of which is ice cap area. It borders in Upernavik municipality on the south, on the unincorporated area of the Northeast Greenland National Park on the east, on the Arctic Ocean on the north, & on the Nares Strait, which separates North Greenland from either Ellesmere Island of Nunavut, Canada on the west.

A Thule Air Base (Pituffik), which is not a share of Qanaaq or even any more municipality (these are, such as a Greenland National Park, unincorporated territory), occurs as section of the U.S. network of early warning radars, and is an significant facility in the recent discussion of the National Missile Defense (NMD). A projected upgrade of the facility (X-band Radar) to meet the demands of the NMD is controversial inside Greenland and Denmark (Greenland is a a portion of the Kingdom of Denmark). In January 22 1968, a B-52 crashed seven miles south of the Thule Air Click Base. Nuclear bombs were misused & junk scattered above a region in the accident.

Touching Qaanaaq there exists one of a tallest constructions in a globe, the Radio Mast Thule.
